MGL V6 and V10 Com Radio Connection to iBox (iEFIS system)

MGL V6 and V10 Com Radio Connection to iBox (iEFIS system)

To connect an MGL Avionics V6 or V10 radio to the iBox for remote control and remote frequency selection, please use this example schematic below (setups at bottom of page).

Notes:

  • Use iBox RS-232 channels 3, 4 or 5 (save channels 1 and 2 for high speed RS-232 applications such as ADS-B). The example below shows using RS-232 channel 3.
  • Remember that with RS-232, the transmitter from one device (TX) connects to the receiver of the other device (RX) and vice versa.
  • In most cases with the V6 only the RS-232 #1 channels are used. RS-232 #2 is not used and not connected unless you have another device that you want to use to control the V6.
  • When connecting the V6 to the iBox you can also connect the iBox Audio alert output ('AU', pin 14 on the Encoder/MISC iBox connector) to the AUX Primary Audio Input (pin 20 on the V6 Radio), to have voice alerts through your headset from the iEFIS. It is recommended that you run this through a panel switch so that you can turn off audio and voice alerts if they become too intrusive.

Setup:

To Setup the V6 Com Radio on the iEFIS, first setup MGL COM 1 radio on the correct serial port in MENU > SYSTEM SETUP MENU > SERIAL PORT ROUTING/ALLOCATIONS:

Then, enable VHF COM 1 in the MENU > SYSTEM SETUP MENU > EQUIPMENT ENABLES menu:

Then, exit setup to save settings and then restart the system (turn power off and on again). Restarts are required between RS-232 allocation changes.

You can verify bidirectional communications by changing the frequency on the radio and watching it change on the EFIS radio indication, and vice versa:
