First, wire the Navworx to the iEFIS according to this article. The article shows using the Navworx with the Sandia transponder, but other transponders can be used. Then, follow the instructions below:
Note: With the Navworx ADS600-EXP (Experimental version of the Navworx ADS-B UAT transceiver), the EFIS does NOT control the Navworx - the connected Transponder does ALL control of the Navworx, including setting the squawk on the Navworx, and providing encoded altitude (which in some cases comes via the EFIS, but not directly). The Navworx ADS600-EXP contains its own compliant GPS, so gets its position source internally.
Here are the setup steps for configuring the Navworx ADS600-EXP and the iEFIS and iEFIS Lite to display weather and traffic:
Follow Navworx's instructions to setup the Navworx via a PC or their available iOS App via Wifi. Setup your aircraft per their instructions.
For Data Input Sources, when using the Sandia Mode-C transponder (STX-165 or STX-165R), select:
Pressure Altitude Source: Icarus
Data Rate: 9600
Transponder Code Source: SL70R, STX165
(iOS App shown)
For Display Port Select:
1. Display Type: Traffic Alerts
Display Data Rate: 115,200
With the Sandia and Navworx combination, the EFIS is used to send encoded altitude to the Sandia transponder, and the pilot sets the squawk and mode of the Sandia Mode-C transponder from the iEFIS screen, and the transponder then sends this information to the Navworx ADS-B transceiver. The only connection the iEFIS has with the Navworx ADS-B is to receive weather and traffic data from the Navworx. Because of this, the Navworx ADS600-EXP is considered a 'receive-only' ADS-B as far as the EFIS is concerned. Although the ADS-B is an IN and an OUT, to the EFIS, it is just an IN.
Setup Navworx ADS-B on the Serial Port it is connected to in MENU > SYSTEM SETUP MENU > SERIAL PORT ROUTING/ALLOCATIONS. Remember to exit settings and then restart EFIS for serial port allocations to take effect.
Since we are not controlling the Navworx ADS600-EXP from the EFIS (like we can do with the Navworx ADS-600B certified unit), we do not need an ADS-B controller on the screen. The transponder control and status indicator is all we need on the screen. Therefore, we do not need to enable the ADS-B in MENU > SYSTEM SETUP MENU > EQUIPMENT ENABLES, since this can turn on the ADS-B controller on the screen. This device may be disabled in the menu:
